The Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre (BFRC) is pleased to present its Distinguished Lecture Series on Innovation, which will feature prominent speakers and innovation gurus from around the world. The lectures will be held from October 2009 to March 2010.

For leaders, encouraging people to think like entrepreneurs or "intrapreneurs" is often the key to maintaining a competitive edge. Kicking off the series will be Professor Tina Seelig, Executive Director of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, USA. In her lecture on October 24, she will talk about innovation in existing organizations. Joining Professor Seelig in the discussions will be two young local CEOs (in their early 30s), who will share their personal experience in entrepreneurship.

Speakers' Profiles

TINA Seelig is the Executive Director for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP), the entrepreneurship center at Stanford University's School of Engineering. 
She teaches courses on creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the department of Management Science and Engineering, and within the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford.

Tina was recently awarded the 2009 Gordon Prize from the National Academy of Engineering, recognizing her as a national leader in engineering educational. She also received the 2008 National Olympus Innovation Award, and the 2005 Stanford Tau Beta Pi Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

Tina earned her Ph.D. from Stanford University Medical School where she studied Neuroscience. She has worked as a management consultant for Booz, Allen, and Hamilton, as a multimedia producer at Compaq Computer Corporation, and was the founder a multimedia company called BookBrowser.

Tina has also written 15 popular science books and educational games. Her books include The Epicurean Laboratory and Incredible Edible Science, published by Scientific American; and a series of twelve games called Games for Your Brain, published by Chronicle Books.

Her newest book, published by HarperCollins is What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20: A Crash Course on Making Your Place in the World.


ANDY Lau is the Chief Executive Officer of The I-Consulting Group (ICG), which he set up at the age of 28. Under his leadership, ICG has grown from a small IT serve provider in Hong Kong to a market leader on IT outsourcing and consultancy services for listed companies, MNCs as well as SMEs, with presence spanning across Asia Pacific and Europe. It is also one of IBM's Gold Value Partners.

Prior to founding ICG, Andy held management positions in sales, marketing, technical consultancy at a global internet media and market research firm (Nasdaq listed) with extensive international business experience. He had worked in Paris, South East Asia and Central America before he reached 30.

Andy won an HKMA Quality Award for SMEs this year.



ALAN Yip is the CEO of Guru Online, one of the largest online integrated media solution companies in Hong Kong to help advertisers and advertising agencies formulate and execute interactive campaigns with measurable impact.

Prior to joining Guru, Alan was responsible for formulating retail marketing strategies, consumer behavior and business logistics at Procter & Gamble.  Alan then joined La Souhait Cosmetic Group, and subsequently became Groups' Marketing Director of the Great China Region, responsible for revamping its branding combination and management, as well as providing advice to the Group's business strategies.
